Pathway
Purpose: Outline the development pathway for umpires at Netball Waitākere and the requirements to achieve each award.
Vision: An outline of the umpire pathway in outlining the requirements for each award up to NZ C.
The Umpire Development Pathway
The Umpire Development Programme involves the support of Umpire Coaches to help you develop your umpiring skills. The pathway follows the Netball NZ Umpire Accreditation Framework. Umpire Coaches will guide you through each stage of the framework preparing you for the requirements to meet the requirements of each stage.
Introductory/Junior
The first stage is the Introduction to Umpiring Award. Visit the Getting Started page to find out more about our introductory stage of the framework.
At this stage, umpire coaches support you to get started with umpiring and set you up to move on to developing your skills to progress to the next stage – Centre.
Centre
The next stage is the Centre Award. Once you have achieved your Introduction to Umpiring Award, coaches assist you in achieving your Centre Award.
To achieve your centre award, you need to complete the following:
- New Umpire Module (Theory)
- Practical Assessment on a 4 x 10-minute quarters game
Coaches will work with you to develop the skills to meet the above requirements and in line with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Centre Badge [Hyperlink to KPIs in Resources Page]
Zone
The following stage is the Zone Award. Once you have achieved your Centre Award, coaches assist you in proceeding further towards your Zone Award.
To achieve your centre award, you need to complete the following:
- Zone Theory Exam Pass of at least 85%
- Practical Assessment on a 4 x 10-minute quarters game approved by Netball Northern or Netball Waitākere
The Zone Award KPIs build on the KPIs for centre building on the skills developed at centre level and implementing new skills. Coaches will work with you to work towards your Zone Award.
NZ (A, B, C)
The last stage in the framework is the NZ Award. The award is given in 3 levels – A, B and C. After you have achieved your Zone Award, coaches will support you to work towards your NZ C Award.
To achieve your NZ C, you need to complete the following:
- NZ Theory Exam Pass of at least 85%
- Fitness Screening – Yo-Yo Testing Score of 14.3 (Within two weeks of the most recent fitness testing deadline.
- Practical Assessment on a 4 x 10-minute quarters game approved by Netball Northern
