Where to Start (Existing NW Website Information)
Umpiring is very rewarding and is a great way to contribute to the community, give back to the game, and to meet and connect with others involved in the sport we love. Our umpires are essential to the enjoyment and delivery of netball at Netball Waitākere.

Your first step on your umpiring journey is to complete the Netball New Zealand Learning to Umpire Module. You can find the module here Sports Tutor - Logon Page.

Once you have completed your module you can participate in our Introduction to Umpiring Course to begin working along the umpiring pathway.

The Introductory Umpire Award is for umpires who are just staring and/or have no formal qualifications. This course is beneficial to those who umpire to assist their club or school. The Umpire Introductory Award involves participating in a two-part course – a theory session followed by practical application session. The course focuses on 7-a-side rules but briefly touch on 6-a-side rule variations.

ITU Dates & Registrations

  • Theory Dates: TBC

  • Practical Dates: TBC

For practical sessions appropriate clothing and footwear is required. If you do not have whistle, a handheld whistle can be bought from Netball Waitākere for $15.
We also recommend downloading the Rules of Netball App on your phone. This can be downloaded on the App Store or Google Play.

Where to After?
After the completion of the Introduction to Umpiring Award, we invite you to participate in our Umpire Development Pathway. This programme connects you with umpire coaches who work with you to develop your umpiring skills to go on to achieve your Centre Award.
