The 2019 Netball NZ U17 Champs were held right here at Netball Waitakere from 15th-18th July.
This year Netball Waitakere had two U17 teams competing and an invitational team that was made up of our winning U15 side.
Condolences to our U17/2 Carla Gordon and whanau who lost her grandmother during this time, the team did real well to place where they did, improving last years placing from 30th to making the top 16 and finishing off 14th after a thrilling last game against Auckland 2.
Netball Waitakere Team of the Year definitely goes to our NW U17/1! Winning U17 Nationals was epic! The win was made more special as Netball Waitakere were hosting the tournament and the team were able to be supported by their whanau, friends, schools and clubs throughout the week. Stay West, Play West!!! Is a testament to the these girls who live locally, the majority of girls go to school out west, and they all play here at Netball Waitakere something we are all very proud of, supporting our local community.
Special mention to Sila Matautia named in the tournament team. Sila had an outstanding tournament with accurate feeding into the shooters all week and great hustle on defence. Her composure and consistencey made her a rock in the midcourt. Also Super Star Grace Nweke thank you for your loyalty and commitment to your School, Club, Rep team and our Netball Centre, great to have you back in the green and grey! Seamlessy slotted in with well with our other shooters Danielle Binks, Heta Matautia and Mia McCausland.
Congratulations girls, Head Coach Tabitha Winter and Manager Hedy Turner superb management of team!
