About Netball Waitākere
Netball Waitākere is situated at Te Pai Place, Henderson, currently catering for over 600 Winter League teams and 150 Summer League teams in the West Auckland and Waitākere region.
- Te Pai Courts are the major facility and headquarters for the Waitākere region.
- The Centre organises competitions and tournaments all year round to cater for the large number of local Primary, Intermediate and Colleges.
- Competitions are provided for Fun Ferns, Future Ferns, Intermediate, Secondary, Seniors, Premiers, Mens, Boys and Mixed Competitions.
- The Netball Centre is used for Winter and Summer League Netball, Representative, Provincial and National team competitions and trainings.
- The Waitākere centre holds classes all year round for Players, Coaches, Managers and Umpires, and gives sessions to the local school sports co-ordinators.
- The Netball Centre is used all year round by the community.
Our History
Netball Waitākere is now 58 years old. We are proud of where we have come from and the great centre we have continued to grow into during these 55 years. Below is a brief overview of Netball Waitākere through the years.
- 1968 - Netball Waitākere commenced in 1968 with 6 primary school Netball teams.
- 1975 - There were 101 registered teams plus an increase of 29 teams with the introduction of college and senior teams (396 teams plus 110 summer league teams were registered at Netball Waitākere in 2005).
- 1979 - There were 9 courts established at Te Pai Park in 1979(there were 43 Astrograss courts in 2005).
- 2005 - Nearly 6000 school children were able to use and enjoy the Centre in 2005.
- 2006 - A total of approximately 8,860
- Netballers played at the Centre in 2006, including 7,000 children. Community use of the Pavilion and Courts is fully utilised year round.
- 2007 - A total of nearly 9500 Netballers played at the Centre Netball courts.
- 2009/2010 - Our new complex, the Te Pai Centre was completed. The official Opening Ceremony was held on Saturday, 27 March 2010 along with the first grading games of our Senior and College Grades.
- 2017/18 - Our outdoor courts were completely refurbished, creating a safer environment for all of our young netballers.
- In 2018 we celebrated 50 Years of Netball Waitākere! We had 500+ Winter League Teams and 100+ Summer League teams and the competition continues to grow every year.
- 2024 - Netball Waitākere officially adopts their māori kupu into its logo and name, Netball Waitākere - Poitarawhiti Waitākere. Honoring our connection and whakapapa in the Te Kawarau-ā-maki Rohe.
- 2026 - Kaipara Netball Centre joins Netball Waitākere as a Satellite Centre, expanding the geographical scope of Netballl Waitākere membership catchment area.
